It's important when creating the characters that there are believable, we want to use small details about them so you can easily tell what they are like. Especially in a trailer as you don't get to see much of the characters. Throughout the trailer it will just include the main, to keep the focus on them and not the minor characters. We thought hard about who the characters would be in our trailer, but due to out chosen main location, we wanted to create a small typical family. This setting is popular in the film industry and is included in low budget popular films such as paranormal activity. Our other reason for creating a typical family is so that we can take something very simple, that everyone is used to and twisting it into something frightening. So at the start of the trailer, the audience can relate to things they see. And towards the end, they will be terrified of the things that occur in the trailer to have effect on them in there own household.
Mum: The 23 year old mum will be played by me. The reason that we did not find another actress for this part, is because we unfortunately didn't want to rely on someone else to be a main part if they could no always be available for filming and rehearsing. I also liked the idea of always being around the camera when filming and also the ideas I have in my head for how I want this character to act can really show through when I play the part. Although I may look a little young for the part, I tried to ignore that and dress and act as I would if I were older, despite the age gap.
Dad: The 24 year old will be played by a friend of ours Matt who is 21. The way he looks is perfect for the part in my opinion as he looks old enough to play the part well, which unfortunately isn't the case with me. In the script at the beginning the father will be sorting something suspicious, this is important when acting to show this suspiciousness clearly.
Baby: I really wanted to carry on with the typical family look in the trailer, so we will include a little actress Willow in one scene. This will hopefully look good at the start of the trailer and the viewers will straight away understand that it is in fact a mature family in a household.
